Two offices – the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) – held a joint 3D printing conference "Shaping tomorrow: 3D printing and its impact on IP". It took place online from 13 to 16 July.

Each day featured a short online session in which various presenters and experts discussed 3D printing's impact, highlight challenges and opportunities, shed some light on IP protection strategies and looked at the future of this fast-moving technology. EPO Chief Economist Yann Ménière also presented the findings of a new patent landscaping study which analyses the surge of innovation in 3D printing across multiple industry areas from a patent perspective.
