The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Industrial Property Office of the Business Development Agency of the Principality of Monaco have aligned their practice on assessing public policy and accepted principles of morality.

The EUIPO and the Industrial Property Office of the Business Development Agency of the Principality of Monaco MCIPO have jointly prepared a practice paper on assessing public policy and accepted principles of morality in trade mark applications, in accordance with the Common Practice (CP14) developed by the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN).

The practice paper has been adapted to take into account the particular characteristics of Monaco, and it provides an overview of the Office's quality standards and a clear, comprehensive explanation of the principles on which the practice is based. It will primarily be applied by MCIPO and the intellectual property (IP) offices of the EUIPN

The practice paper is a tangible result of the EUIPO’s extensive cooperation efforts to collaborate with non-EU Member States on harmonising and converging IP practices.

The practice paper aims to increase clarity, transparency, legal certainty, and predictability for the benefit of the users and examiners. The practice paper is available below in English. The document is divided into two parts: the first summarises the key messages and statements of the practice principles; the second provides a clear and comprehensive explanation of these principles. It also serves as a reference for all interested parties.
