Why register a trademark ?

Registering your trademark with the Office will enable you, from the very day on which you file your application, to:

  • Enjoy exclusive rights to the use of your trademark across the national jurisdiction for ten years.
  • Extend those exclusive rights to other countries.
  • Protect your investments, by prosecuting anyone who copies your trademark without permission.
  • Generate income quickly, notably by allowing others to exploit your trademark commercially under license.

NOTE:

In addition to the advantages listed above, “collective” marks also convey an image of quality.  Applications for a collective mark filed with the Office must be accompanied by a copy of the regulations which govern the use of the collective mark.

Well known” marks are an exception to the rule. They are protected by virtue of their prominent reputation, irrespective of whether or not they have been filed and registered with the Office.
